How Cornucopia safeguards donor information

by | News

At Cornucopia, safeguarding donor data is one of our highest priorities. As a result of our commitment to data security, we are PCI/DSS compliant, align PII compliance with the requirements of the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and have implemented cutting-edge technologies and rigorous policies to ensure every donor’s personal information remains safe and confidential.

Cutting-edge Card Capture Technology

Cornucopia employs state-of-the-art software provided by SequenceShift, which enables us to securely capture card data while ensuring that sensitive information remains protected at all times.

When making a donation, donors enter their card numbers using the keypad on their phone. Importantly, our fundraising agents never hear or record the donor’s card number.

The card data entered by the donor is then tokenised, a process that replaces the actual card number with a unique token, adding an essential extra layer of security.

Donations are processed in real-time through a secure payment gateway. Agents can see the results of the transaction without seeing the card details, and can assist donors with any issues directly before concluding the call.

Secure File Transfer

To ensure secure data handling, we use encrypted file transfer methods with automated policies in place to delete all incoming and outgoing files containing donor data within 14 days.

This stringent approach to data management guarantees that donor information is not retained longer than necessary, further safeguarding donor privacy.

De-identification to protect donor information

Any donor data loaded into our system is de-identified either three months after the final call or a short time after the cooling-off period expires. This means that all personal details are anonymised to protect donor privacy.

At Cornucopia, we are dedicated to making the donation process as secure as possible for our clients and their donors. We’re always happy to share our comprehensive data security and privacy policies, and if you have any questions about how we protect donor data, please don’t hesitate to contact us to find out more.
