How Tom got his start in fundraising
Tom is currently Associate Director of Individual Giving at Plan International Australia, but his career in fundraising began at Cornucopia in 2004.
His first role was in face to face fundraising, and it didn’t take long before he was given additional responsibilities, becoming a team leader after just a few months.
Within six months, Tom rose even further up the ranks, and was soon asked to manage a number of teams and subcontractors from an office in Western Australia.
Tom’s journey at Cornucopia didn’t stop there, as his natural leadership skills and passion for fundraising saw him take on roles in New Zealand and the UK, before becoming a Client Account Director.
Working for a better world
After getting his start at Cornucopia, Tom is now responsible for raising $24 million each year to support the work of Plan International.
Plan International is the charity for girls’ equality, tackling the root causes of poverty, supporting communities through crisis, and campaigning for gender equality.
Plan exits to to help create a world where all children can live happy and healthy lives, and where girls have equal opportunities.
It all began at Cornucopia
We’re incredibly proud that Tom has continued to impact many more lives through his ongoing work in the fundraising sector.
He credits his success to the skills and experiences he gained in those early years, saying:
“My work at Cornucopia is directly responsible for my career.
“As a face to face fundraiser you literally stand right next to people as they make a choice whether to give or not.
“There is no better way to understand the psychology of why people give – what makes them say yes or no.”
There’s nothing more rewarding than using your skills and personality to help make the world a better place. Find out more about starting – or growing – your fundraising career at Cornucopia today.
